Data We Do Not Collect
LingoDuet does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. We have no servers. We receive no audio, transcripts, translations, or usage statistics from your device. Your conversations are yours alone.
On-Device Processing
All speech recognition (powered by OpenAI Whisper via WhisperKit), translation (Apple Translation framework), and text-to-speech run entirely on your iPhone using Apple's Neural Engine. No audio or text ever leaves your device during a conversation.
Microphone Access
LingoDuet requests microphone access solely to capture your voice for translation during an active conversation. Microphone access is never used in the background. You can revoke access at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone.
Sign in with Apple (Optional)
Pro subscribers may optionally sign in with Apple to sync their subscription entitlement across devices. Sign in with Apple shares only an opaque user identifier with us — no name or email unless you explicitly choose to share them. We do not store this identifier on any server; it is used only locally on your device to validate your subscription status.
Purchases & Subscriptions
All payments are processed by Apple through the App Store. LingoDuet never sees your payment details. Subscription management is handled entirely by Apple — you can manage or cancel your subscription in iOS Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions.
Advertising (Free Tier Only)
Free-tier users see interstitial ads between sessions, served by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect device identifiers and usage data subject to Google's Privacy Policy. You can limit ad tracking in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. Pro subscribers see no ads and AdMob is not loaded for them.
Model Downloads
The Whisper speech recognition model is downloaded once from Apple's On-Demand Resources servers over a standard HTTPS connection. No personal data is included in this request beyond what iOS sends to Apple's CDN by default.
Data Retention
Conversation transcripts are displayed on screen during an active session and discarded when the session ends. Nothing is written to disk. LingoDuet stores only your app preferences (language pair, audio device choice, subscription cache) locally in iOS UserDefaults and Keychain on your own device.
Children's Privacy
LingoDuet is rated 4+ on the App Store. We do not knowingly collect any information from children under 13. The app contains no content inappropriate for children.
Your Rights
Because we collect no personal data, there is nothing for us to delete, export, or correct on our end. All data LingoDuet stores (preferences, subscription cache) lives only on your device and can be removed by deleting the app.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes materially, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the new policy.
